Born in Tolosa, he started playing the guitar by himself at age fourteen. His first approach with the Blues was through a friend who showed him the basic tricks on the guitar, in addition to three albums he heard: Guitar Watson´s “Witchcraft”, B.B. King´s “Live at the Regal” and Robert Cray´s “False accusation”. He has been playing since then, on stage since 1997. In June 2009 he finished his studies at the Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country, Musikene.
From that same year until 2018, he leads the project The Romanticos. The band releases three albums: “My time” 2012, “Do it yourself” 2014, “Good vibrations” 2017.
Nowadays, his partners in crime are the French rhythm section formed by Kris Jefferson (Popa Chubby, Alex Foster, Jerry Gonzalez, Liz McComb, Kirk Fletcher) on double bass, and Andy Martin (Chris Ruest, Shawn Pittman) on drums, performing his new project: Iker Piris & his Dual Electras. They just recorded an album under the title of “Electra” that is composed completely of original songs and it has guests like the harp. players Greg Izor, Nico Wayne Toussaint and Víctor Puertas on piano. The album has been released by the label El Toro Records.
Passionate about acoustic blues, he releases his first solo album under the title “Solo” in 2019, under the label Gaztelupeko Hotsak.
For the first time in his career, he released his first live album with The Donkey Riders: Live at Altxerri Jazz Club.
In 2023, he released “Hypnotic Stomp” with The Wilsons Organ Trio. With the great Freddy Pelaez on the B3, Piris brings us closer to the classic organ trios popularized throughout the 1950s and 60s by figures such as Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff, and Larry Young.
Currently, alongside Jon Aira, he is focused on his most personal project, The Donkey Riders. In 2025, he released the album “Down Home Gumbo.” Produced by American Mike Mariconda and featuring the legendary Mark “Kaz” Kazanoff on tenor sax, John Mills on baritone sax, and Al Gomez on trumpet—The Texas Horns, the veteran and prestigious horn section that has collaborated with artists such as Jimmie Vaughn, Earl King, Ronnie Earl, John Nemeth, Marcia Ball, and Anson Funderburgh—this album stands out from many others internationally. A work that can captivate anyone who enjoys blues, classic rock, and edgy sounds.
He has shared the stage with artists such as Chris Cain, Franck Goldwasser aka Paris Slim, Aki Kumar, Chris Ruest, Greg Izor, Paul Orta, Chris Corcoran, Tonky de la Peña, Nico Wayne Toussaint, Mingo Balaguer, Víctor Puertas, Melvin Davis, Blas Picón (with whom he released the acoustic blues album “Heartbreakin’ Men” in 2015), Boston soul singer Jesse Dee, The Velvelettes, Marcos Coll, Kim Weston from Motown, José Ramírez from Costa Rica, Sheilah Cuffy, among others.
He has performed at festivals including Zacatecas Blues in Mexico, Settembinu di Tavagna in Corsica, the International Guitar Foundation in London, the Técou Blues Festival, the Talavera Jazz Festival, the Loire Blues Night, the La Rochelle Blues Night, and the Rubi Blues Fest. Sr. Toledo Blues, Art’ Blues Festival, Les Rendez-vous de l’Erdre de Nantes, Cavaeu de la Huchette de Paris, Lérida Blues Festival, Les, Relache Music Festival in Bourdeaux, Tournon-d’Agenais Blues Station, Hondarribia Blues Festival, Puente Genil, Hinx Blues Festival, O Barco Blues Festival, L´Hospitallet Jazz/Blues Festival, Mojo Festival Workin´, Sweet Cotton, Fiesterra Blues Experience, are some festivals that have had their participation.
